Jon HartLindell,
Some of the "stamped" data on pocket watch cases can be tricky at best. However, if you can master a few of the trade-marks that do not clearly state the case is GF you can procure something sold as a "base metal" from time to time. Thus, adding to the value of the overall watch, in my humble opinion. A nice GF case is getting harder and more expensive to find.
Looking forward to trade-mark data finding its way to the IHC board.
All the best

Mike HodgeThis may be naive, but it seems that if a case is solid gold it is pretty well marked as such, but if it is gold filled, it is Named, or hedged a bit. An example, I got burned on as my first ever watch purchase. It was a Fahy Monarch, marked 14K, but named Monarch. Plated!!!!, I paid gold price for it. Ouch!!
