18s 11j Hampden factory "up-jeweled"?
I am cleaning this Hampden s/n272155 (c.a.1883)watch, and was puzzling at the number "15" marked on the barrel cover as this is a press jewel top plate movement ("Hampdenese" for 11j mvt.). The "Blue Book" (also) reports an 11 jewel marked 15 about 100 numbers above this s/n . . .

So when I take off the dial, LOOK Eek what I found! An all press jeweled 15 Jewel movement! The "15" on the barrel cover looked too classy to be an "aftermarket" number anyway. So is this a "factory "up-jeweled" movement? Lindell, I guess we have to jump in your time machine and go back and ask my third generation removed "Uncle James". Roll Eyes

That is a very interesting watch Dave, another of those "never-say-never" examples that causes us to re-think some of our previous conclusions. Eek And yes, that trip would sure be fun to take! Big Grin I'm ready!

Nice case too . . . Looks to be original to the movement.
