William D. WhiteSteel Escape Wheel. Harder and more precise than a brass escape wheels used in lower grade watches.

Buster BeckHere's your steel escapement wheel Roger. It's the first little gear in the gear train with the white arrow.
Some were brass before RR standards started required a steel escapement wheel. Then most all the manufacturers went to the steel wheel on all their lines of watches.

Roger StephensThank you guys.I knew it had a steel escape wheel but I did't or don't know what ateel is.Perhaps a play on words by Hampden or a mis-spelling?
