Stephanie O'Neil>>>>>Which Pocket Watch Did You Wear Today?
I started a thread recently on "Which Wristwatch Did You Wear Today" of course in the Wristwatch forum. It's only fair to ask the same question in our Pocket Watch forum.
I would be surprised if this question gets answered as readily as in wristwatch forum. We'll see.

Today I wore "The Lady & the Bird" pocket watch. You ask what the hey is The Lady & the Bird?

That's all I will say at this point regarding the watch. When I get a little more fine tuned with my new digital, I'll post a pic. Can't say how long that will be.

At any rate...

Jerry TreimanI just happen to have a pic of the watch I was wearing today, and you caught me without a 12-size

. This is a circa 1882 16-size Elgin grade 4 in a big, heavy Dueber coin-silver case (even Aaron would like this one

). These are a thick movement and take a special case (same case as the convertible model or a dome-model Rockford). I am pretty certain this is an original hunting movement in an open-face case.

Tony Ciccotellithe watch I just got through working on and will shortly sell on Ebay...I'm not much of Collector...more of a Tinkerer...to me....it's a challenge to get these old watches working again.

Ed UeberallThis week's watch is a triple signed Private Label 16 size Agassiz, 20 jewel hunting LS movement in an original 14 Kt "cut Hunter" case, with
two crystals over the dial. The case had to have been made this way because there is a
raised lip of gold surrounding the crystal in the outer front cover. I have never seen another case like it and wonder if it was a special order by the jeweler for a specific customer who requested it.
This is a VERY well traveled watch. Built in Switzerland, then retailed in Boise, Idaho. I purchased it from a dealer in Christchurch, N.Z., and it now resides in south Georgia.

Phil DellingerI guess this qualifies as a pocket watch even though it is electric. It is a Bulova Accutron model 2182 with the day/date window, dated 1976. Pretty indestructible and still works great!!
This chain and elk's tooth is what I like to use when wearing any of my pocket watches.

Scott CerulloToday I carried a 15 jewel Elgin. This is the watch that started the stem sleeve repair thread. Thanks to Chapter 185,the great tutorial, and a bag of old stems and sleeves it winds and sets perfectly.

Mike DalkeI am a couple of days late. However, the watch that I carried on the 17th was a 12s Colibri, skeleton style pocket watch that my wife, Bonnie, gave me for Christmas almost 10 years ago. It is the watch that I carry most of the time when at work.

Stephanie O'NeilToday I wore my hunter Swiss P. H. Doret pocket watch, 6 size, 15 jewels, lever set, fancy dial, serial # 334350, dust cover 2553243. Watch case was made by Keystone Case Co.
Any information provided regarding my watch would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, and I attached the watch to my green gold watch chain.
The watch was made in the town of LeLocle, Switzerland. My watchmaker estimated year of manufacture sometime before 1924.

Stephanie O'NeilWhat's cool about this pocket watch is the unique basket weave affect of the inner part of double sunk dial as well as the copper color case!

Jerry TreimanStephanie, Waltham was quite proud of those metal dials, as you can see in the attached notice copied from their 1909 material catalog. The numbers and minute marks are actually etched in and filled with enamel. (I am also quite fond of rose gold cases).

Stephanie O'NeilHi Jerry T.,
Very interesting! Thanks so much for posting this invaluable information.
I'm now wondering if the center of my metal dial is gold or gilded! Looks like gold to me, or is it wishful thinkin?
Very interesting.
For those interested, here's a shot of the movement.
