Paul D. Trombley1894 Illinois 17J Htg M5 LS RR Signed: Engel Natl Watch Co - Chicago
Any Illinois history buffs out there that might have history or stats on this watch. I find the whole story about this early industry quite interesting.
When I saw this watch, I keyed on the regulator and gold filled lettering. I ran the number past Dave and his data bases came up with this being a Rail Road King...
I have not been able to find reference to Engel Natl Watch Co other than an old thread discussing Swiss fakes.
Sorry about the pictures, here is what they read.
Chalmers Pat 12.19.82 around the regulator wheel
Safety Pinion under the regulator arm
ADJUSTED under the signature
Engle Natl Watch Co in old english around the rim
1227502 around the rim going away from the signature
17 Jewels on the barrel plate above
Chicago in old english
What ever she is, she's been around the block. The balance wheel may be tweaked beyond repair. And this case has had at least two other movements in it over time.
I have an old Essex Columbia hunter case on the way that I bought for another movement. This movement may find a home there.
Up for a challenge Dave?
