I check with my local scrap buyer weekly to see if he has any watches I can buy, besides the high prices of gold, with the economy the way it is he says people are bring in things they said they would never sell but that they really need the money. So you are right, more & more are going to disappear.

The scrap guy here has a watch band like that only 18K & antique with British hallmarks, it has a antique movement too but I can't recall what it was. I would love to have it except for the cost & the fact it is too small for me, I think it weighs around 4 ounces.

If people only knew....hold on folks, gold is going to go through the roof....sell now for a little profit, those that hold on for a while will profit the most....

If you think gold is a good investment, a gold watch is an even better investment, especially if you like old watches.

Is there a general rule for calculating the troy weight of the watch and subtracting the weight of the movement?

There is information in the Price Guide that should help you estimate the weight of a solid gold case.
