I was wondering about a pocket watch that I have. I believe it to be an Illinois Sangamo Model 4 serial 1977799. Next to the last serial number for the production run. Looking in Volume 2 of American Pocket Watches, it has a hand written notation 'Ariston'. Does this mean this watch would have been made for sale by Marshall Field & Co.?
Also it is marked 'Adjusted 6 positions' and my other Model 4 is just marked 'Adjusted'

Many thanks in advance for any information. Lawrence Jones

The reference to Ariston means that some of the watches in that particular run were Aristons.

I doubt that Marshall field would have ordered all 200 in the run. My experience with high grade 12 size watches is that they would order 10 to 30 at a time.

Bob,
Thank you for the clarification. It was confusing to me that it wasn't marked as a private label movement, if it was such. It is not, just in a run where there there is a potential that some of the movements were based on the notation.
