RR Decal
I found this watch and was wondering if anyone knew anything about these RR decals that are applied to the dial. Were these put on back in the day or is it something fairly new to throw buyers off. I have seen them before but never knew anything about them.

Thanks Chris THis dial is actually on a 21 jewel Hampden watch. But of coarse you can see this one has the decal applied rather than the dial made with the name.

The applied decals are recent additions.

Often watches with the applied decals are sold to model railroaders at their events. They are also sold at flea markets and every once in a while will show up in eBay watch auctions. Apparently the dial additions started out as a way to give a "Railroad Connection" to otherwise ordinary watches.

There was a seller at Dearborn this year who had trays of loose dials with the applied decals. My impression was they did not sell well, he seemed to have nearly all of them at the end.

Personally, when I come across such additions I remove them.
