Waltham experts or Mr. Abbe Question about a "Metropolitan"
Gents -

Question:

Is this a PL or could the "Metropolitan" be a Factory Mark on the MS Barrel?

Jon,
The pocketwatchdatabase and the Waltham grey book both show this as a No 15, P.S. Bartlett grade.
The only thing I can find on a "Metropolitan No.1" is a 15j, 18s, HC Model 2 Elgin.
There was a Metropolitan Watch Co. of New York but and I think they were jewelers so this could be a PL watch.
I'm looking forward to seeing what others think.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Michael,

The Elgin info - would lead one to believe in the PL theory...

The 18s Full Plate "Metroplitan No. 1" models mentioned in the Gold Book include; Elgin, Hampden and Seth Thomas Models. It should be no surprise then that Waltham made a few too. Nice engraving. Very Collectible.

Thanks - Michael and David...

Now to see if we can chance down a Hampden, Elgin, and S.T.
