Rating certificates
Back in the teens ,in most or the ads for new railroad movemenwts,at the bottom of the description, there was "certificate of rating furnished on application" Just wondering if anyone has or has seen one of these certificates. It would be a pretty cool thing to have for a collection. Thanks!

Seen a few of these over the years Ted on the Bay for sale most times. Have images of some Rockford ones somewhere here, from memory they were for the 16 Size watches.

Also have seen reproduced ones (eBay again) that are not filled in with any data (serial and description)

I have a few Aristons in their original wooden boxes- tucked in there are also the rating certificates showing + - seconds in various positions and temperatures. Numbered to the movement as well

Thanks Terry.I've often wondered if many people asked for them when buying a new watch.Nice to know there are still some left.

There wasn’t much of a point for rating certificates where railroad watches were concerned. Each watch entering railroad time service was required to be inspected by the watch inspector. The inspector would rate the watch, recording the variance on the back of the watch inspection certificate that was issued to the employee.

Theodore -

Here you go. This is a rating certificate issued by the Rockford Watch Company in 1904 for a Grade 545 movement.

Hope it helps.

Thank you Nathan! Very cool.A lot of people likely don't appreciate the time and effort that went in to making these watches so accurate. It was pretty expensive to do this extra adjustments.
