I looked up the serial number on this watch but I got some conflicting information about it on some different sites . The serial number is 12667952 it is a 16s 17j Royal . Can anyone shed some light as to production date model or grade etc .

Actually I did find that information I just wasn't sure about some things. Most of the 1899 models I seen where slightly different but then I did find one similar to what I have . It was the 1899 Model Gilt & Nickel 15J English Export but only in so much as the bridges where similar although the royal has 17 jewels and the dial I have is a fancier dial (http://www.awco.org/seminar2006/waltham/waltham.htm) . That information makes no mention of "Royal" though so I just wanted to be sure .

I found this page as well now . It seems the royal is one grade below the riverside or so it seems . http://www.barrygoldberg.net/w...de/walthamgrades.htm

It is not mentioned as much as the riverside or cresent ST . Adjusted to only 3 positions not 5 like the riverside no mention of isochronism or double roller for the royal or steel escape wheel; gold train and has 17j less than the 19j or better for the higher grades .

The Grade 630 17J model 1899 is a well fitted and finished carry watch. The "Royal" name celebrates Royal E. Robbins, Waltham's worthy and benevolent "CEO who carried on through the many years of Waltham's greatest successes.

With a brass escapement wheel, typically this pendant setting movment was finished with up to 3 position adjustments.
