Arthur E. KnowlesELGIN VERITAS S18 23J & WALTHAM VANGUARD S18 23J
I dont know if i am allowed to ask this question, but i get confused with price books, each having their own answers
and conditions. I been searching for a elgin veritas s18 23j that has a perfect dial, nice case no dings nor brassing
in its original case or proper case and of course has no rust on the movement and runs fine, its hard for me to determine
a fare price To purchase it. This goes for the waltham vanguard s18 23j also. I have learn so much from all of you, like how to determine if the watch is a incorrect recase and brassinh and to inspect the movement for rust and other imperfections.
But i have difficulties with a fare value, i am not searching for mint condition maybe ex fine. I think i am asking a difficult
question. Maybe the price is based on how much the collector wants the watch, but i am asking for the fare buying price for both.
once again, as always i appreciate and value everyones responses. Art, the newbie

George FrickArt, I have had luck by searching pages or "stores" of sellers, Google the watch you want and you will find these pages. This is the high end. Then I look at completed eBay auctions. That gives me the low end and I can get a rough range I want to operate in.
These guys are the best at evaluating watches for sale. I find watches on eBay or other sites. If I am interested in them I ask for an evaluation here. These guys are amazing, and they usually will tell you where they found the data. Getting them to give prices [without good pictures] is a bit.....tougher.

David AbbeI paid $104.00 for this one on eBay. I had to put in a new Mainspring and it runs great. If you want a better case, look for an 18s case next.
