Howard 19 jewel movement
I'm looking at this 19 jewel, series 5, Keystone Howard watch, but there appears to be no hole jewels in the barrel arbor. I don't understand. I thought all 19J movements had jeweled barrels. Where are the extra jewels? Under the screw?

Hi Mike, No, there are no jewels in the barrel arbor, it is basically a 17 jewels movement with two extra cap jewels on the escape wheel. Since there are no cap jewels on the pallet fork I guess Howard must have had some technical (or marketing) reasons to just put them on the escape wheel. I personally prefere a jeweled barrel.

Thanks Peter. I prefer the jeweled barrel, as well...for looks, if nothing else. Howard technicians were very....shall we say, 'inventive'.

Yes indeed, quite inventive. I have a 23-jewel Howard Series 0 hunter with jeweled banking pins instead of a jeweled barrel.
