1883 Case Screw Location
I just noticed this morning that the Waltham 1883 has two different case screw locations.

Whats the story? Am I missing something obvious?

This one is by the balance cock.

And this one is above the balance wheel.

I've been gawking and ogling and staring and comparing.

Then I thought, aha!, it is because of the different regulators.

I looked at one of my 83's and it has a star regulator with the case screw by the balance cock, so that isn't it.

Over the history of the 1883 model, Walthem made countless minor revisions, the most obvious were the number of plate screws and the position of the case screws.

Sadly the ONLY change Waltham did not make was to change the lever escapement bar to the better functioning "Anchor" style escapement used by all the other Watchmakers.

Thanks Dave, I can go back to panning through ebay.
