Crescent St Center wheel Jewel
Good evening guys,

I'm repairing an old Crescent St 18s 21J. Besides being extremely filthy and the broken mainspring I ran across something else. The center wheel jewel on the inside of the bottom has come out. I would have blamed it on the ultrasonic if it hadn't fallen out during disassembly.

Is it just friction pressed in? It appears that I can press it back in but I'm wanting an expert opinion before proceeding.

Thanks

Joseph, I suggest that you contact Chris Abell to seel if he will re-stake that Jewel in place on the Dial Plate.

I agree with Dave. The original ones where bezel set. It sounds like this Might be a replacement that some one put it over the years. Bezel set do not fall out. Which means they had metal formed up around the jewel to hold it in place.

There is a bezel in the center, but I see no indication that indication that it was ever formed up around the jewel. In fact, as far depth goes it sits quite far into the bezel. It looks as though it should be pressed in. the jewel setting is not removable either. Im wondering if I dislodged it while removing the center wheel pinion.

Joseph...thanks for posting the pics. It sure looks like that setting should press out from the other side. If you can't reset the jewel in the existing setting, you should be able to get a replacement jewel with setting and press it in.

I went ahead and re-staked it. It of course fits like a glove...
