Sometimes I guess pawn shops can be a good place to find a good watch. A friend of mine told me about a 16s 21j Bunn Special made in about 22-23 that was in a smooth back Wadsworth gold case (no brass) with an original Monty dial for $249+sales tax. So I figured what the heck and now I have two Bunn Specials both in Wadsworth gold cases, both with ds dial one blind-man type and one Monty type.

I never can find any in the pawn shops here, I did find a bunch a year ago in St. Cloud Mn.

I don't chase after Bunns that much but they are good watches and the price was right, it does need a new crystal. The dial only has one very faint hairline and the looks to have been last serviced in 8-8-1999 (from marking on inside of case with marker)and so far it is running accurately. I need to toss up a picture of an Elgin that has a highly engraved dust cover that appears to be a story in itself, hopefully someone can shed some light on the names.

Will do Tom, it appears that the original person was a minister in Nashville ~early to mid 1800's well before the watch was made but it has at least two more names with one about 1931 so I don't know if the last two were sons, grandsons etc but the the watch was very professionally engraved on the dust cover and later on the inside of the back cover (it is a triple hinge OF case)hopefully it is bright enough outside today to get some good close up pictures and let you do your mojo magic!!!

The best deal I ever stumbled across was an Elgin BWR from 1927 for $160. It just needed cleaned and a new crystal.

Other than that, all I EVER find are 7j Elgins, and most of the time folks want at least $350 for what they call a 'railroad watch'.

WELL done! It's in a MUCH better place than a pawn shop now!

My best pawn shop watch was a Waltham Crescent St for about $85, when I went back to that shop, they wouldn't allow that guy to wait on me.
