My Hamilton 950
Well here is a few pictures of the Hamilton 950 I stole from some pawn shop. I never thought I would own a 23 jewel Hamilton 950 because I am not going to pay the going price for such a common watch. This one just happened to be the much less produced pendant set which I think is somewhere around 4401 produced. I did not know it was pendant set when I purchased it so that was a nice surprise.

This one according to the Gelson list was made between 1914 and 1917 and I am guessing probably 1915. It has a DS Hamilton in Old English script dial which was not used for very many years. The 12 size and 16 size Hamilton watches produced during the same years also used the Old English script dial but they were SS dials.

I have cleaned up the watch. The original dial had one hairline but I had an extra DS dial in new condition. I polished the case and here she is.

Really a beauty. I love the dial. I do have one with that signature but it is single sunk.
Thanks for showing it Harry.

Thanks Roger I would rather be lucky than good. I also answered your quest for a Hamilton dial.

Harry,

You scored an unusually nice, early factory-cased premium watch, the best of the best in every way.

Congratulations on very wise purchase!

Lindell

Nice watch, Harry, but I am not sure the crown or bow are original. Here is a photo of my pendant-set 950, #785,630. It is in a factory-signed 14k case. It has a french bow, which your watch doesn't have. Its crown is ovoid and fits into a concave depression in the stem. Your watch's crown is more triangular and appears to be too big and the wrong shape to nestle into the stem's concave depression.

I am not a Hamilton 950 expert. Perhaps Hamilton used several types of bows and stems on them, but the ad copy I have for the 950 (in my next post) shows a watch with the same crown and bow that my watch has.

Thank you Lindell, Ethan and Buster.

Ethan you may be right. Although mine is in GF'd Permanent case. The crown is very crisp and sharp so certainly it must have been changed. I will see if I can find a more correct crown EThan thank you for the pictures.

Ethan as for the bow you may be right on that also. I like the French bow better although the bow that is on there the flair on the bow matches the stem pretty well. I will see if I can find a french bow and see if it fit but I am very very short on French bows.

Thanks for the pictures to go by.
