Determining Size of Pocket Watches
I am new to Pocket Watch collecting. What is the best way to determine (measure) the size? I have found some internet sites that will give the size based upon the serial number, but I can only locate for Elgin and Waltham. Are there other sites or one that will give info on all?

One site recommends measuring the face of the watch.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,
The best way to tell the size of a watch is with a movement gauge. You measure the outside diameter of the dial side of the lower pillar plate.
If you have a copy of the 2005 price guide, there is a gauge on page 34. You can put your movement on that and tell the size.
If you want to buy a metal gauge, e-mail me, I have an extra.

Brian,
Thank you for the information. I have a gauge, just wasn't how to do the measuring.

Thanks,

Steve
