Early Rockford #416
Here is a old Piece i picked up this weekend Rockford 18 size serial# 416 when i frist looked at it i thought the balance cock wrong but the serial #,s match on the watch ,the balance will need some work the staff is broke and there is only 6 balance screws in the balance but the good news is the balance looks straight and the hairspring looks good.

I think it will clean up good and be a nice watch..

Samie:

I have the cousin to your (new) old Rockford. Mine is either 7 or 9 jewels. Same setup but the engraving is slightly different. (IT TOO, NEEDS A GOOD CLEANING!) 1st Model, Serial #16,191.

I have the Erhardt Rockford book but did not look up dates. Your #416 is two**! 1877, mine 1878. Same hands and dial.

In prime condition it would be worth more than book value. Your balance wheel puzzles me, six screws...could be different balance or hairspring or both. My balance wheel has 12 screws.

I took a quick look at the watch before i bought it to check the Numbers on the various parts and was pleased that the original parts were still there ..The Balance may be a job to get right i have a few Rockford parts watches but none are near this early..any serial Number below 500 is hard to find i paid more than i wanted too but i just could not walk away witout buying it. Smile

The underside of the Balance wheel does have the same serial# as the rest of the parts
