Hi all,
I am looking at an Illinois 18s K/W serial number 540842. Can anyone tell me what this is, Grade, jewelling, etc. Is it scarce, or collectable, to other than someone just starting to collect ????

13,450 made Bill. They are the first to be offered with damaskeened gilt plates and are nice looking when in top shape. They came with a seconds sunk enamel dial signed Illinois watch Co. Many were used to fill orders for PL buyers.

Not a scarce watch, but if it shows well it deserves a place in anyone's collection be it beginner or seasoned vet. If it's been maintained and times well that would be a bonus as it's a true antique, but if not running or "needing a clean" , I would probably stay away from it as 125 years is a lot of wear time. The pillar plate is not jeweled and pivot holes can become elongated over time without lubrication.

This watch looks good and appears to be working, can not tell how accurate. The case is quite nice, no brass, the dial looks good, etc.
The only real flaw is it needs a crystal, has a crack in it.
If I can negotiate the right price I might try it.
