My First 992
Hi all,

I picked up my first Hamilton 992 today. The serial number is 2459465 so I think it was made in 1933. Am I correct on the date?

Michael, nice looking 992L, you did good.... The Gelson list has it made in 1927 which is no big deal....

Could you please show us the inside of the Rear of the case, the cover....

Thanks,

Nice buy Mike, a 992 is essential to any serious collector.

Jerry is right your number is indeed from 1927 production. The "Serial Number Listings Preserved by John F. Gelson" is the only consistently reliable source for accuracy. All other lists were put together using guesswork whereas the Gelson Listings were compiled directly from the Hamilton Factory Ledgers.

By the way, your movement is housed in a period-correct after-market case. This may well be an original combination because through 1929 the 992 was available from Hamilton as a "movement only" to any of their authorized retail jewelers and distributors. After 1929 production the 992 and its successors 992-Elinvar (1930-40) and 992B (1940-70) were advertised only as factory cased movements.

It looks like one of the case screws is sticking up to far and hitting the inside of the case.
