I bought a older pin set system roskopf pocket watch (I'm a sucker for some of the elaborate dials). When I got it today I tried to screw off both bezels with no luck. I looked at it with a loupe and saw what appears to be some type of glue or corrosion. Anyone have any deas of what I can use to loosen the glue or corrosion?

Bruce this happened to me last year on a Waltham in a silveroid case. Some jackleg had used some sort of glue to seal it!

I end up "dabbing" at it with 3M adhesive remover until I had sufficiently softened it up enough to screw off the bezel with the rubber tool. Its essentially a glue solvent and can be found at any automotive store. It takes a while but it did work.

The trick is not to use to much. I don't know the effect it would have on the black inlay on the movement or on the dial if it could get in there.

Sounds like it's glued and you're screwed.

I also found some remnants of glue under the back of one of my watches. The back cover does not snap on tightly but does hold under normal use. Apparently that wasn't good enough for somebody. Since removing the residue, the cover now does snap on better than it did before.

Another option, while dangerous has worked for me before. Take a razor blade in a scraper handle and slowly work it into the crack between the body of the case and bezel. Work it around being very careful not to slip and cut yourself. Dont pry with it and make sure its in the grove and it shouldnt leave marks. Unless the genius who glued it also didnt tighten it like Magilla Gorilla it will work.
