Roger Stephens992 with 4 ft.dial question
Just acquired a 992 s/n 376826=1906,model 1 unmarked movt.It has a 4 ft. dial,as it should but the Hamilton script is the script that appeared in the 1920's.Just a little cofused.I know someone here can shed some light on this. The dial is Hamilton # 436.

Jon HartRoger,
Looks like someone surely did a dial swap at one point in time w/ the block letter hamilton dial starting in the 1918s and your movement being made way before that.
Finding a minty 4 foot dial can come at a price... So, maybe someone was just working with what they had on hand or could get cheaply and was not aware of the scripts.

Roger StephensJon what is confusing is that the "block"dial seems to be completely original even down to the 4 posts. No alterations at all.I bought the watch thinking someone put a three ft. dial on this 4 ft.movt.I really wanted the dial to be a 3 footer!

Jon HartRoger,
I remember seeing some four foot 16sz Hammie dials w/ block script somewhere, but let me keep digging through the articles here...

Robert McClellandThis statement is taken from the 1920 Hamilton Watch Material book page 18:
"16-size Dials are furnished both with
3 or 4 feet. In ordering 16-size Dials be sure to mention number of feet."
The graphics of the available dials show "Hamilton" in both script and block letters so the customer or the watchmaker could choose which they preferred when a dial was being replaced.

Roger StephensThanks Jon,Robert and Lindell for the sleuthing on this subject.I do have a very nice Montgomery,ds dial in script that I will put on this movement. The Montgomery I robbed off of a 972 movt.I put a ss 4ft.dial on the 972.Since the 972 is not RRG.Thanks again. You can always count on the guys, girls here at IHC
