Dueber Hampden Pocket Watch
Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for information about Dueber Hampden pocket watch on the face. Inside it has Nathan Hale Canton , 15 jewels, Serial # 3735152 and the case is stamped 11280440. Any information would be great. Smile

Mel,
The "Nathan Hale" was Hampden`s lowest grade in the "Thin" 12s series. They were unadjusted and came in 10k and 14k gold-filled cases. All of the movements in the 12s Thin series were factory cased and require a special case. They will not interchange with a standard 12s case. They sold for around $40 in 1925.
Other grades in this series were the "Paul Revere" which was the top grade in the thin style with 17 and 19 jeweled adjusted movements. The "Minute Man" was a 17j grade and came in adj. and unadjusted models. The Paul Revere could be had in a gold-filled or a solid gold case. Don`t know whether the other grades came cased in solid gold or not.

The model 6s ( thin model) included the 15j Nathan Hale,17j Minute Man and Paul Revere, the 19J Paul Revere and the 15j relgis and the 17j Relgis (for Sigler ( Relgis spelled backwards) Jewelers in Cleveland.According to my calculations the Nathan Hale is the most common model 6 with between 13K and 23K being made. The rarest is the 17j Relgis of which one example is currently known--Jerry Treiman helped restore it for me.

Just bought this Hampden, 12s, 15j, Relgis on ebay. It`s the first one I`ve ever run across.

Bob,
The Hampden book says they were made for "Ball Watch Co." and I see no reference to Sigler Jewelers. Do you know if there is a connection between the two?

The 15j, Relgis has a one-star rating in Shugarts Guide, which equates to around 2500 made, I believe, but the value is listed about the same as the other thin models.

Any thoughts or input is appreciated.

Curious...

If the name is a reversal for Sigler, do you suppose it has any relationship to this Sigler?
