Nickel or Coin?
I have a 18 size swing out case. It is marked A.W above Co. and is in a shield. Pat. Apr. 17, 79. Serial number 11281. No other marking. Is it nickel or coin?
Thanks,
Harry

Harry, throw up a picture. I will look in the trademark book, however my hunch is nickel

Here it is Phil. I figure it is nickel but since I am going to sell this 926 I want to make sure the description is accurate. I did check the Price Guide but I did not see this mark. I did see this mark with coin underneath it but since this one doesn't say anything I just want to be as sure as possible.
Thanks,
Harry

Silveroid/Nickle would be my 2 cents.

The silver swing cases in this class have a pinned steel swing ring insert. The silver was too soft to support the hinge.

That would be my guess also Paul but only a guess. Hopefully someone will know for sure. If not I will sell it as a nickel case. Rather be safe than sorry.

Harry, I can't post a pic of it, but I have a nice original 18s Seth Thomas in one of those A.W. Co. swing-out cases.Mine has the A.W. Co. and the "pat. applied for" cast into the case back (the lettering is raised).I've always wondered if it is silver or some kind of nickel or silveroid. It doesn't tarnish like silver would, though.Really well made cases!...Ted.

The letters on mine are inscribed and not raised. I think it is nickel but don't know for sure. It has not turned real dark like coin or silver would but I don't know when the last time it was polished either.

Harry, without a doubt your case has a lot of nickel in it. This American Watch Co. case is very unlikely to "Brass Out".
