Under the dial of a wind indicator
Hi Guys

I am just a bit curious about how a wind indicator on an American pocket watch works, there is not much info I can find about the subject, any info would be appreciated Big Grin.

The Wind indicator mechanisms of Elgin Wind Indicator watches are well detailed in their 1915 parts catalog. The Waltham is similar in function but quite different in execution. In both cases, they use a very clever means using planetary mounted pinions to display "Up" to "Down" wind variations due to the independent action of the Crown wheel and the down winding motion of the motor wheel/barrel.
