Lorne WasylishenIf this is what you are asking, with some experience the style of the case and the way it is marked can give you a pretty good idea of the era it came from.
As far as serial numbers and dates of manufacture for cases, no records were kept or if they were nobody has found them.

Richard M. JonesGeorge I at one time saw that there were about 220 watch case makers or companies in the USA over time. I can only think that a researcher with time could go thru the city directories of say 1840-1930 for American cities and compile a list of makers. I can tell you that in 50+ years of collecting American railroad watches I have probably had cases from 30-50 makers but I never actually kept track.
