23 jewell Bunn Special
Here is an 18 size, 23 jewel Bunn Special I just acquired. Outside of a pretty scratched up crystal it is not a bad looking watch with only 1000 made of this variant. There are a couple of faint hairlines in the dial but all in all a nice example. My question on this watch is regarding the screw holding the balance cock. Does this appear to be correct? If not, does anyone have a correct one? Your comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Absolutely, that should have a domed top like all the other movement hardware. It should not be difficult to locate a correct replacement. By the way, seeing the regulator pegged at the slow extreme is a sure sign of a need for service. As watch movements became dry from lack of lubricant they often run faster for a while right before slow down and stop entirely.

That one should probably be taking a trip soon. Big Grin

Lindell,

You are correct to assume this will be going in to the Abell store soon. Hopefully he has or can locate the correct screw. I love the bright spot finish as well as the gold engraving.

Steve, What a beauty! Congratulations! Wink
A couple thoughts;
That Gold movement screw has value in its own right. When Chris gets it, I would expect the first thing he will do is check to see if the hole has been re-tapped, possibly explaining why the screw used.

The regulator screw is missing which explains why the regulator staff is swung all the way back. Be careful as it looks like the regulator whip is about to jump over the staff, and some of those whips are "glass" hard.

Dave,

Thanks for your sharp eye. I will point that out to Chris when I send it. Looking forward the the 17 jewel Bunn by the way.
