Howdy!
Hi! My name is Brad, and I just joined up yesterday. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone, and learning a few things! I am a Hamilton addict.Pocket watches mostly, but I do have a couple of wristwatches, one being a 1944 987A military. I'm not really big into trying to repair my own watches, as my eyes aren't the best anymore, but I'd like to hear what others have to say. And if there's any information I can pass on, great.

Thanks everybody! I really feel at home, with people who share my fascination with these mechanical wonders. I am getting a real charge out of the "Pitfalls" section today, as I've been burned a couple of times. I am very glad I joined, and it is indeed the best $12.00 I've ever spent online! Looking forward to exploring much more! Especially the Hamilton stuff! Again, thanks!

Thanks Bill! Yeah, we're right across the Columbia River from "The Apple Capitol". I'm looking over my Hamiltons, and wishing I had found this place a long time ago. I've learned an awful lot today!Oh well, I'm here now.

Brad,

I didn't realize where you were from at first but my parents retired in Chelan. They had the place up on the Butte that you could see as you came around the turn at the bottom of the hill near the lake. I spent many vacations during the summer there.

They have both passed on now but we made many trips into Wenatchee for airport runs, Sears Store, Thai food, etc. The fresh fruits in the area are awesome.

Welcome! This is a great group of people who are always willing to help. There are several of us here that do repair work, so if you aren't able to do your own, you will find people you can trust to get it done.

Bill, that is a lovely 917! I've never seen one with roman numerals. I just purchased a 917 from a seller on ebay as a Christmas gift for my brother. The guy stated in the listing as being made in 1910! I told him that these didn't come out till 1936, but, I bid on it anyway...got it for $96.00! With the bakelite case! When it arrived, I was totally blown away. This thing looked like it had never been used! Not a scratch on it! Took it to our local watchmaker to have it adjusted, and he said that there wasn't a jeweler's mark anywhere! I'm guessing that it was re-cased. But that doesn't matter' the case is correct, and the movement is pristine! My brother is gonna love it, and I'm happy that I didn't get rooked for once!!!

John, Steve, yes this is a wonderful area to live in. It has everything! The mountains, the desert, and one of the prettiest lakes in the world...Lake Chelan. I grew up here, but my wife is from Connecticut. She's not quite used to the brown desert hills yet. And Roger, thanks for the repair info! I've been using a watchmaker in Oregon, but he's very expensive, and I don't quite trust him.

Hey Steve! It's great to have a fellow club member close by. I wanted to apologize for the remark I made yesterday about the weather over there...I was trying to be funny. I looked at the post later, and decided to remove it. Brad
