Richard M. JonesHi Peter, I believe your watch is not the ** version but either the 340 or other version. I cannot tell for sure from the pictures but i don't think the train is gold. At any rate it is a nice watch. If the wheels are pitted there is really no way to get the pits out except to polish them out and it might be better, if it is the less expensive model to try to find a parts watch with decent wheels and click.

Peter KaszubskiThanks Richard but my search coming with grade 241

Jim BielefeldtI was hoping you were right about the 2 stars, because my favorite carry watch is the same as yours.
That design is quite common on the ratchet wheels and the click also. I looked and it appears they are even on 7j movements on the bay.

Mike HodgeI have one of these as well Peter. I don't think the MS arbor and ratchet wheel are as interchangable as we may wish. I'm never quite sure so I'll keep reading to hear the experts.

Peter KaszubskiI have 2 of those and the new one is bit different all 3 fingers are with writing on them my old one have finget next to balance wheel empty them 17 them jewels and both are for HC.
been looking in fat book and notice two stars next to the adjusted model thus the question.

Claude GriffithI am not sure what the book is saying the 2 star 17j 3 finger is but the only one I could think of would be the 341 Hunter and that is not the 341 hunter. I think the OF 161 might get a 1 star rating. You have low production 155/243 hunters but I think those were higher production than the 341.

Jim BielefeldtI think you are correct Peter, the adjusted makes this the 2 star variety.
I also may not be an "expert" but I know Elgin's. The ratchet wheels are pretty interchangeable unless they are jeweled. The pattern is the only thing different. They are not an unusual pattern.

Ethan LipsigYou have a grade 241, which is not especially rare. I think the scarcer grade 243 is the more highly valued movement. I've attached a photo of my grade 243, which is in a very nice and original 14k DuBois case.

Peter KaszubskiThanks Ethan and all.

Claude GriffithHere is the 341, I think 1000 total made, the easiest tip off for a 1-2 star Elgin 3 finger is the gold colored inlay engraving.
