Eric UnseltWhat's a snap-foot dial? The name sounds pretty self-explanatory, but I've never seen one.

Hi eric; It's not "snap-foot" it's "snap-fit",there is a lip on the underside edge of the dial that snaps over or on to the movement frame

Eric UnseltAre these dials porcelain?
How do you take that kind of flexing and snapping?

Tom Bruntonyes, porcelain , I believe the porcelain is on a rigid copper disc that is bonded to a larger thin copper disc that is crimped over to form the lip. The rigid disc would not crack the porcelain, nor would the flexible lip put enough pressure on the disc to crack the porcelain either

The lip might also be formed from the main disc by a stamping mill so that the lip is thinned and more flexible than the dial face proper .
