The dial is unusual with the USA marked on it.

Look how the factory did the mill work to make this a lever set movement. Then made it a pendant set

From the outside it is just a Plain Jane Looking watch. But Oohh Baby that 23 jewels purrs like a kitten.

A very pretty Waltham Eugene, and I am not really fond of them. But this one is very nice. Good save!

I can't prove it but often I have seen the dials marked USA were for export. Perhaps that is why the ALD case?

This watch was brought back by a serviceman that was stationed in [I think he said England]. I think you are correct about being a export Waltham. This the first bow that I've seen that is marked Gold.

If any one knows where I can find productions # on 23 jewel Vandguards, hunter case pendant set I would appreciate the info. I know that the price book says that hunter case's are 1 star but it does not take in to consideration of pendant set. Thank you Gene.

I think Tom is on the right track.I have around 20 Walthams in my collection and two of which are in ALD cases. One is an 18 size in an English hallmarked silver case and and a 16 size in a 10k gold case.it is a Star Dennison that says it is English made. Both dials say Waltham,USA.

Gene, something else about your watch that may be of interest to you....

Your watch was 7th made in a run of 200 and here is the interesting part....

All HC made before yours was PS(pendant set)....your run was the first to have LS & PS top plates, in fact all the 23 jewel HC were made this way starting with your run of 200, for a total of 1500....

Regards,

Jerry

So there wear a total of 1500 pendant set 23 jewel hunters.

Or there where 1500 made that went either way.

Thank you for your help.

There were 5300 total 23j HC and of those 3800 were PS only then at #22225501 they started the P & LS, yours was the 7th made and there were 1493 pcs made thereafter in four runs....

Yours is 1 of 1500 made....

I hope this clears it up for you....

Jerry

Thank you and yes it does. That is pretty Low #.
1 0f 3800
and 1 of 1500.
I guess that is why the book has it as 1 Star watch.
