Thank you so much Peter. I have a listing on ebay with a lot of 6 that say Nickel on the cases and I titled it Nickel Silver. I guess I better go fix it before I get in some real deep ...doo doo!! I know someone will yell at me. Thanks again.

Frances I list my stuff quite often as nickle silver if it is a nickle alloy case. Nickle was often called German silver or silverine or silveroid or other proprietary names. If it does not say coin silver or sterling assume it is nickle if it is unmarked and looks like silver. (An exception to that is the early aluminum cases that were alloyed with silver, but those are scarce). That being said keep in mind that the term nickle silver was very commonly used to denote a nickle alloy and is still used today. There should not be any question as to misleading if you say nickle silver in my opinion. I have not had a complaint about using the term and if you look in the dictionary nickle silver is clearly defined as being a nickle alloy. Personally I find it much more questionable to see regular sellers who say 14k gold when it is a gold filled case. I think that is very misleading, particularly when it comes from "jewelers."

Frances,

I would say you can leave your listing as you originally titled it. I have seen some nickel silver watch cases stamped simply with the word 'nickel'.

BTW, nickel is sometimes spelled 'nickle' by sellers. I think the correct spelling is 'nickel'.

Regardless, when I do a search on eBay, I try both spellings.

Do you have a link or an eBay item number for your auction? I am a big fan of nickel silver cases, and I would like to see your offering.
