Case for E Howard?
Howard Temp Home
Looking to see what style case can I House
A nice E Howard movement in size N needs to be close that fits some case for now It could be open face even though the movement is Hunter movement fron 1875 I think 213839 May be I should have left it on ebay but I liked the movement it very clean.

Thomas-

Most were housed in solid gold cases, so it may be a difficult task to find one. Also, I think the movements were a little oversized, so that would make it hard too. Someone else would have to confirm the oversize part... great quality watches though.

Sadly someone scrapped the gold case.

Jared is correct Thomas, the early Howards used their own sizing system so finding a case is not easy. I have seen some standard cases specially modified but they are not the real-deal and so there are usually issues with them.

They are worth saving, early Howards rank among the finest watches ever made.

Thomas, the truth is that you made a mistake thinking you will find a case for it. You likely never will. Some E.Howard cases are silver by the way, not all solid gold. Modified cases are bad news. Avoid them. They should not be encouraged. But this is the start of your movement-only collection!
Nothing wrong with that. I have one!

I like the thought of a "movement only" collection. I too have a couple that will be hard/expensive to find cases for.

A friend and sometime IHC185 member may have a case. As these were individually sized and fitted, as soon as I can qualify the availability, some measurements would be needed to assure a "match".

I must add that the case in question is solid GOLD as were many of the Howards, so the price would be proportionate.

That's an easy one - sort of. If the case didn't formerly house an "N" size early E. Howard movement, then it will only be a placeholder, and an expensive one at that. Serious early E.H. collectors are a tough crowd, I've found out. They are discerning. They do not like and will not spend good money on any watch that has been messed with, whether it's the case or the movement.
In fact, they don't even give a lot of value to some series E.Howards in original silver cases!
If you like them, and plan on purchasing more than one, I really suggest booking up (I know, who wants to spend hours reading about something before buying, which of course is a lot more fun).
My motto for a long time: Nothing is easy.

Friend did the same thing, he found a different "N" size movement that was THINNER and hence fitted in.

I will find one , I know there is one just waiting to be found. For now I found a case maker that will make a case out of stainless steel with two viewing covers for $500.00 .At least the movement will be safe, and it can be shown without causing damage the the movement
