Hi All

I purchased this Elgin Pocket Watch & also a Elgin Military Dial. Can this movement be converted back to read military time?

Keith, I regret you waiting so long for a reply. To convert your Elgin back to a 24 Hour dial requires finding the Cannon Pinion/intermediate wheel/Hour wheel set that correctly ratios the 1- hour cycle of the cannon pinion into a 24 hour cycle for the hour wheel. I have no idea where to go for parts like those.

Presently, the hour wheel turns 1/12th of a full revolution for every rev of the cannon pinion. After the conversion the new hour wheel must only turn 1/24th of a rev per cannon pinion rev.

It might be easier to make a fresh set by calculating the wheels and then having a friendly photo-etch shop make the two wheels and the intermediate wheel pinion. I would bet you could use the same cannon pinion.

Thanks Dave

Just as I suspected alot of work involved.

Is it worth more as it is or to convert it back to military time?

Is there more information on these Elgin Military watches?

Thanks for any input.

Regards
Keith
