Barry HansteinIllinois Private Label Anomaly
Hey, everyone:
I have an 18 size Illinois private label pocket watch with "J.F. Stoops Leechburg, PA." on the dial but with "J.F. Stoops Leichburg, PA." on the movement (note the spelling discrepancy of the town).
How rare is this type of mistake? Does it make this watch particularly valuable?
Thank you for your response,
Barry

Buster BeckHi Barry,
I feel this typo is going to be a rare bird

Someone at Illinois may have lost their job

Of course Illinois isn't going to charge the customer , so they lose money

And ole J.F. is lighting his stogie and thinking what a great day it is in Pennsylvania no matter what town you live in

regards,
bb

David AbbeIs that the guy they run off at Illinois and was destined to find employment at the US Govt Printing office?

Cecil McGeeHey David, What's the problem? Don't you know that the gov'ment doesn't make mistakes. If you show that stamp to a postal employee, they will tell you that it just a picture of Otis the stunt pilot doing his thing.

Mike LaForestMaybe residents of the city spelled the name both ways in past years and the jeweler was just trying to cover all the bases to please everyone who might buy a watch.
