Recommended key wind ket set make and model?
I want to add my first KWKS watch to my collection. Are there specific make/models to search for?

Were I in your circumstances, I would take a long look a the stem wind watches presently in your custody. If, for example, you have an identifiable sequence Walthams, you might consider watching for a key wind Waltham and then, over time fill in the models between these grades. The same could be done with a host of makes, for example E. Howard, Elgin National, Rockford and the list goes on. Collecting a sequence of models within one make is one of many means of conferring structure on your collecting activities.

Ebay has a good looking Elgin, nice coin case BWR 15 Jewel, which for a 1870's vintage KeyWind is "fully Jeweled".

I am not sure what they mean about RR grade, but it is running, looks clean, and comes with a key. The Coin Silver Case is worth about $100.00, and the movement in the condition I see there is worth about the same. At a "Mart" I see these for about $300+

Mortimer that first one I mentioned has a high reserve on it, here is another one to look at. It needs a minute hand but is claimed to be running. I am sure we could find the hand it needs.

The movement is workable, and a fairly good grade 1877 adjusted movement for the 1884-85 time frame.

Thank you, Desmond and David. Desmond, you used the correct word, "structured," which is contrary to my undisciplined, impulsive acquisitions policy. I am now devoting thought to structure. And, nothwithstaning this, David, I am bidding on that nice looking watch that you posted photos of, and which looks like a good start, however undisciplined I may be.

What about a transitional make/model as well?
