The Jewel caps, ratchet click, Balance cock design all point to Swiss Gruen-based Point of Manufacture. How about lifting the dial?

Haven't got it yet, and after the few years I have been collecting I have not had the jam to do more than take the bezels off, I am a chicken, no question, have no tools either, eyes and patience are not that good. If and when I get it I might see what else I can get off of it.

Definitely swiss, in a Canadian case as well. Doesn't look Gruen to me. My first thought was Omega or maybe Gruen but I cannot find any like references to match your watch. Can you post more pics when you get it. Especially any markings.

When I get the watch I will post some better pics, and maybe there will be some identifying marks on it somewhere, I also was just informed that the regulator appeared to be missing ?

Bill, this looks like fun, both Ray and I are guessing based on plate layout, cuts, and ratchet click. It is most certainly a Canadian 21J something with Swiss style Cap Jeweling for the Escape and Pallet staffs. If it is 16s, it was most likely made for Railroad use, 12s would be strictly high end stuff.

Either way, I guessed that it was one of the Gruen contractors after musing as Ray did that it also resembles an Omega.

There are some markings on the plate which may add something and most certainly going under the dial plate would help a lot.

You are right Dave, it has the look of both. Also kinda looks like a swiss pocket watch I had once but of better quality. I'll see if I can find the card with the information.

Which ever it is, it appears to be missing a regulator spring which would go far in helping to identify.

It was mentioned on another forum that this watch could be a Meyer and Strudeli Cal 194.
I was told it could be found or a similar one on page 198 of the Paulsons Master Key cataloque. If anyone has that book would appreciate them looking and posting if possible.

That could be so Bill,
I believe they also made some "Roamer" brand and "Medana" brand movements as well, your watch looks alot like the Roamer style of movements but higher quality.

I don't know if Steelco is a P/l or a manufacturer ?

21 jewels adj 5 positions, and of course the f / s
and also the A /R settings.

Any help with Id would be appreciated.
This should probably be posted on the Swiss site as it for sure is swiss, so if that needs to be done, go for it, I don't know how to change it.

here's what I found:

H.Steele & Co or H. Steele y Cia, Mexico City, Mexico; founded by Harry Steele was trading about 1928 to 1968. Trademarks were "Haste" (apr 1 1947) and "Steelco" (jan 16 1968).

They imported swiss Buren movements cased them in Mexico and sold them under the Haste and Steelco brands. They also had a division in Mecico City that inspected and seviced watches for the Mexican National Railroad.

The movement indeed looks bit like a Buren movement to me but I do not have an exact id yet.
The MST cal could also be possible. A look under the dial may bring more information (if removed please take a picture even if there are no additional markings).

A nice looking watch of sure good quality !
