Robert SchusselUnusual and Rare Hampden
One of the things that I like about collecting 12 size Hampden is that they are only 12 size American watch that came as pendant set, lever set and pin/nail set.It is believed that Hampden was having disputes over its pendant set mechanism and thus made lever and pinset models also.
The watch below is a 12 size 21 jewel Hampden--John Hancock grade that is nail/pin set. The John Hancock was Hampdens highest quality 12 size watch and ads show it selling for $50.
Only 500 serial numbers were reserved for this grade.
One of the things that I have found with the Gold filled pin set cases is that most of the time cases with a smooth edge shows some brass.
In some way I feel mislead as the seller said the case showed a spot or two of brass.Wonder what others think

Don't you just love these descriptions.

Sheila GilbertNo coment on the brassing, but that sure is a really great looking movement.
That gold on there makes this one shine in more ways than one. Very Nice!

to answer your question . I decided to keep the watch. It is very rare and the movement is in nice shape. Hopefully I can find a 12 size Gen Stark or Dueber Grand that is nail/pin set and swap cases.
