Does anyone else have this problem?
I was watching some show, "Packrats" or something..."Hoarders", that was it. And oh god this house and this 40-50 lady; she lived in lived a place full of roaches, bed bugs and rotting clothes. Oh man, just full of trash. She collected clothes (huh, right) and shoes (Oh yeah, Chu baby!). But she filled up a large two bedroom house... it was so full that she slept in the last unoccupied corner of the living room.

Well, I don't have thaaaaat much stuff, but it does accumulate. Like here's an example, I stopped fixing Hamiltons's and especially those nasty Ball 999's to concentrate solely on repairing South Bend 328's (the HC version of "The Studebaker" 329).

Anyways, S.LaRose was selling bags of things for a quarter a few years ago and I bought some. Well, like a few... I mean heck, 100 bags times 25 cents and it's only 25 dollars and ten buck for shipping. There was some stuff for South Bends and everything just like new! So O.K., it's really not my fault that some of these bags are Hammy-Ball 999 stuff, which, even though I loathe the watch I think all the little springy thingy are cute. :-)

Heck you can try ebay and it turns out it's not even worth it to try Ebay. People will say you're selling stuff from China. And for every auction you get ten people asking you to ship to Italy, if they can pay you in rials (what's that?) and ship to Tuvalu, Liechtenstein, Liberia, Myanmar or someplace that doesn't even exist like Micronesia. Right, it's the miniature version of Indonesia ROFLCOPTERS!

So I was thinking to myself no one wants this stuff any place in the world that has a Postal System, none of this will fit on the 328 and I couldn't just throw it away; you'd never figure which bin to chuckt it into and they don't recycle this crap anyways!

Then it hit me, it struck me, like an invisible dagger ripping through my brain... an invisible dagger made of Lucite! Yes! I could totally make some rockin' paper weights with this stuff, it's just spare parts anyways. I was even thinking of making a few round ones and see if I can invent the next great cat toy.

Soooo, I don't know. It's fun just looking at it and taking pictures, but that's because I think whip-springs with mirror perfect bevelage looks like... oh wait, this is a "G-rated" board.

Here's some pics. Do you think it would look good in plastic paperweights? Maybe I cold sell'em at the national. :-D

What do ya think, should I go with the paperweights? My wife thought it wold be perfect to make jewelry and clothe accessories out of... yeah, whip-spring eatings and large crown wheels used as buttons on an afghan. Naw.

Hey Frank, I can't tell you the number of times that I have needed a whip spring, and I even recognize some of the parts that you are showing as thing that I have needed, clicks, regulators, and such. Those winding wheels should be needed by someone also, especially if they are new. Bottom line,I probably have 10 pounds or more of stuff that I think I will never use,but every once in a while I get something out of that pile of junk that is just what I need to get a watch back on the road. My advice, put it in a box,and wait till you need something that is totally unavailable, and just maybe you will find one in that box.

You could just send it to me Smile I'll be glad to take all that nasty stuff off your hands. OR maybe auction it on IHC185. Nah, just send it to me...I'll even pay the shipping.

Yea I "WISH", I had that problem. Every time I need something like that I have to start looking and end up paying CRAZY money for it. "It's the last one you'll find ANYWHEAR" Mad

Hey Roger, Maybe MY parts are in there!! Smile

So if it's really bothering you, and you want to lighten the load I'll pay the shipping PLUS! Big Grin

Larry

I,m with the other guy,s bag up those Center seconds pinions. I'll buy all you have. And I believe I seen 3 parts that are for motor barrels. I don't belive they fit southbend"s either. The problem you are having with ebay is there is to much to see. Heck it takes me 2 hours a day just to look up pocket watches.

Frank,

Please don't make paper weights, jewelery or anything else "steampunk" from this colletion of material that must certainly contain valuable parts.....parts that might be impossible to secure from any other source. I would suggest the same as others here and recommend putting the parts up for auction here on 185. I for one would bid beyond your initial investment.

It's looking more and more like this would make for a real good IHC185 auction.

Okay. I'll auction off one of the bags. I just hate
these auctions when someone in Australia (nothing
against ya, mates) wins and the Postage ends up
costing many times more than the item!

Dr. Debbie Irvine

Frank,

You don't have to state the postage price up front you but you can put the words in the auction ...

"The buyer will pay the actual shipping cost"

and you can let the winner know the postage from the post office.

Domestic shipping in a US Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope is $4.95, shipping to Canada and Mexico in the US Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope is $11.45 and all other International shipping in a US Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope is $13.45 so anyone outside the US that might want to bid can factor that into the equation.
