Waltham model?
I know this is not a great watch, but can someone identify the model?

This one is 16 size and is either a late 1908 model or a 1945 model.

Jerry - do you have a serial number from it?

Jerry,
According to page 77 of the 1948 Waltham Material Book, its listed as a "Model A 1945 Running Barrel" Under that is the notation "16 A Grade No. 1617 - 17 Jewel - Five adjustments"

Ed - I know that the plate pattern matches the 1945 model as shown in the material catalog. However, late examples of the 1908 model also used this plate pattern. I am not sure it is a consistant indication, but the '08 models (and earlier) have the serial number on the bridges while the 1945 model seems to generally have the serial number on the pillar plate. These factors are why I hedged my answer until we have more information. Maybe Jerry can tell us if it has a running barrel ('45 model) or a safety barrel ('08 model)?

The serial number on this watch is 29962597, which is too early for a model 1945. The markings are 17 jewels, Waltham, Crescent St.,16s, USA. There is nothing else on the watch movement.The dial is just marked Waltham. The case is a Keystone base metal model, with the number of 234225. The case is also marked Waltham Premier.

Firstly you do have a great watch, I could use one for my "war watch" collection right now (let me know if it is for sale). As for what it is, this s/n series was schedulaed for production at Waltham Watch Co. in June 1939, and is listed by Waltham as a 1908 model Grade 1617. See clip from pg 109 of 1948 Waltham factory record;

I have a similar piece s/n 30653070 ordered for production February 1941 as a Grade 1621, only difference from gr. 1617 is to designate the jewel count, but same engraved 1908 movement.
