Sent to me for a new staff I assumed it was a double roller as it is stamped on the train bridge. I had a staff in stock so I pulled it only to find it was not the right one. Although stamped double roller it is a single roller watch! The serial # is 1082469. Swigart & Co. catalog states that before # 711301 these units are all single roller and after they are double roller. Why would Hamilton stamp "Double Roller" on thousands of cases knowing they were to be "Single Roller"? up to serial 711301.
Is it possible that someone in the past has somehow converted it to a single roller. I just can't believe Hamilton would do that.....
It's a Hamilton 973, 16j, Htg, SWLS, DR, 3/4, NI, GJS, ADJ 5.

I suspect a watchmaker converted it to a single roller. I have heard of this happening before. I can understand someone doing this if the double roller staff is not available but I would think a Hamilton double roller size 16 would be easy to get.

Could it be that someone has replaced the original train bridge with a double roller train bridge. Its not my watch and I don't feel right taking the bridge off to check the numbers. Are the bridges interchangeable?

It’s probably the correct train bridge. In order to make the watch correct you will have to use the double roller staff you have and find the correct double roller and pallet parts. The pallet and fork came in solid and two piece configurations and I have no idea if they’re interchangeable.
