Beautiful dumb case question
I just got in this sweet Elgin Gr 135 HC 16s movement with a nice dial . . .

Clean Movement . . .

You may have noticed the case is not quite "period" to the movement. Given the case cover (below), my question is "What "Period" is this Elgin (style 38?) case? I have BWR's just beggin for this case, but should I use a 1920's, 30's, 40's movement?

You should have a contest to estimate the number of different movements this case has held--there sure are a lot of case screw marks.

I know it's been around the block a few times, the question is what "decade" was it used by Elgin on their BWR's?

Off the top of my head, I'd place it early 1930s vintage. In Shugart, page 194 my impression is of a "Style 40" according to the reference images.

And by the way, those irregularities can be repaired by someone like Leon Harris and it would be well-worth doing in my opinion.

Need Case Repairs? Call Leon Harris!

My remarks about the screw marks contents was meant as a joke ,not to question the intent of your question.

Thanks Lindell I figured the 38 because it does not have that little serratted nut under the crown like the 40, I have some 20's viontage BWR's that would love to jump into that case. No Offense taken Bob, I was thinking of the contest as some offshoot of "Name the Tune" or whatever.
