I found this watch in a box lot at a recent auction and was hoping to get a little more information about it than is offered in Cooksey's book. The movement is engraved Liverpool, Makers to the Queen, Thos Russell & Son, serial number 37827.

It is stem wound and pin set. It only sets in a counter-clockwise direction.

The case has hallmarks on both the inside of the back cover and cuvette leading me to believe it is sterling. The initials at the bottom of the HM are T.R.

The dial is unmarked and has gold minute and hour hands. The seconds hand is not gold. A later replacement perhaps?

Jack, What an interesting find! While I suspect there are a number of wrist-watch collectors who know a fair amount about pocket watches, I suspect you might do better posting this on the pocket watch board. Either way, I'll be watching with interest (pun intended).

Hi Bill,

I am a knuckle head! I guess I need to pay more attention to what forum I am logged into before posting. Eek

Jack, you are not! Every once and a while I post a wrist watch topic on some of the other boards in the hope of finding some converts! I think the social psychologists call it the "foot in the door technique".

Jack, The Chester case hallmark puts it at 1885.

Tom,

Thanks for the date. Bill, you are sooo diplomatic! Smile

Does anybody know how I can move this thread in it's entirety to the pocket watch forum? Or do I have to start from scratch?
