John WillisNeed Help- What do I have
Hi Paul; I happened to have a parts 1895, 14 size so I checked and no- they are different, the 84 is a bit larger, My watch is a double roller whereas the 85 is a single roller. I dont know enough about them to know if that would make a difference. Do you know if the would be a different size, one a single roller the other a double.
Other thing I noticed in GUIDE+++++to WATCHES in the Waltham identification section there is the 1874-84 Model and also a model 1884 both 14 size. I also found an example of the 1884 and checked it also. It was different as well.ie too small- it might be the same as the 1885. Thanks for the input thus far.

Paul D. TrombleyI am now, officially, in over my head... along for the ride from here.
I have a few #2844 staffs marked as 88 and 95 parts. And a Paulson's Waltham staff box and a Swartchilds staff box... both skip 14 size.
Double roller could be a problem too.. The #2844's are single roller staffs.
So, worse comes to worse. Someone here will be able to mic one out if it comes down to that.

John WillisI am sorry to hear of your aversion to deep water Paul. I had been hoping to ride on your back until we were back on dry land . However the problem will be solved eventually. I will continue looking and searching. Worse case I will remove staff and measure it but not yet as I would sooner have a watch with broken staff than a bunch of parts, Thanks for know.
Anybody out there who may have some idea where I can find a staff please jump in.

John WillisHI; RECENT UPDATE!! The watch is now running!! After doing a lot of looking and measuring I determined ( balance wheel was from a model 1892.
(B balance staff was an original 1874 fitted with a double roller ( I assume that was original to the 1874 but have no info. on that. (C. spring barrel was original as was the MS.
I was fortunate to have a NOS spring in fine shape so it went in. The balance staff was purchased from Dash 2.
I just finished putting in the staff and assembling the watch and it took of like a scaulded rabbit! It sure felt good to see it running. Has been a fun project to sort it out and get it running. I will add a couple more pics of it running and cleaned. I will a couple more on in a few days when I have cleaned the case and have it completed.

John WillisBeen a little tardy with my updates. I think it is finally finished. I had a little fun getting it to run well in all positions but after chasing ghosts for a while determined it was hairspring. To summarize:
Balance is from Waltham 1892 fitted to a staff from a Waltham 1874. I think hairspring, roller are 1874.
Main spring and barrel are original 1874.
Dial appears to be original 1874, not been altered and has all 3 posts. Unfortunately has some crazing at the post areas. I will look for a good replacement but probably not plentiful (Anybody!!!).
Case is ygf C.W.C Co. 314905 in decent condition. I fitted it with a new crystal and gave it a little rub and I think it looks pretty good. I will add a few more pics. Thank you to everyone who contributed and looked in.

Paul D. TrombleyWay cool, looks great. Those cases for the swing arm lever set are hard to come by. Yours looks really nice.
