Re: Peoria Watch
Hi All,

Can someone tell me if the earlier Peoria watches that were marked for Railway service have this marking on the dial also. I have a early gilded hunter cased version with a low serial# 8936 that is only marked on the dial with 'Peoria Ill'.

Thanks to all.

The more coveted ones were marked for Railway Service on the dial and the movement.

Thanks for the response Mike, would you or others happen to know if there was a particular serial number that the ones that were marked on the dial with 'For Railway Service' started at? Also, is the watch I have correct with only having the dial with 'Peoria Ill.' on the face?

Best Regards,
Bila

Bila, I have no idea as to which serial numbers would have such markings. I know that some have "For Railway Service" on the movement, some also have it on the dial. it is generally considered more desirable, whether correct or not, to have it both places. These were very old movements and the standard was different then. The one I had, sold to Tony Dukes, was a 15j, hunter configuration, but in an Open Face case. i thought it was quite desirable. If you like I can send a photo to your email.
here is a link to it on our site.

Bila,
In the Peoria book of serial numbers on page 17 it lists sn 8944 which is just like yours with a Single Sunk Peoria dial.

Thanks Tony, excellent to know as this saves me chasing a dial.

Bila,
I have seen only a couple of gilt Peoria movements marked for railway service. Once it is cleaned and serviced I believe you will have a keeper.

Thanks Tony, it will be interesting to see how it comes up after a bit of TLC, its amazing really how this still runs even in it's neglected state. I haven't decided if to keep it or move it on.

Best Regards,
Bila
