My first post ever and a very nice thanks to Lindell Riddle for spending time with me discussing my great great grandmothers watch. Here is what we concluded so far. I would love any comments or info about the case. Especially the mark. If you recognize this stamp please share your wisdom. Its an American Watch Company Waltham Riverside size 8 ladies, 11 jewels, 3/4 plate. Serial #841471 model 1873. Case # 1249, Woerds Patent movement. Probably can't add anything that Lindell didn't already tell you, but that sure is a nice looking case.

Hi Daniel! Welcome to IHC185. You have a very beautiful Waltham Riverside watch! Please keep the case together with the movement as I have found that there are not that many size 8 cases anymore. It seems that many, if not most, were solid gold and have been scrapped.

I think I have seen that case mark before, but can't recall where. I am adding a link to a German site (translated) of numerous case marks, some with pictures, used by English, European and American makers. I know it's a lot to look through, but your case mark may be shown. Here is the link:

You and I are neighbors

I looked through all the photos with no avail. I took it to the local gold shop (i know its a sin in this forum). I asked him if he was going to do any kind of acid test or deface it any way. He said "No" then before i know it he is trying to hook it up to an electric tester. Thanks to Lindell's advice i politely took it back. He told me he needed to check it that way and that it would leave no mark. Having done some welding in my time, i know for a fact it would have left a detectable pock mark. He didnt recognize the stamp on the case mark. I am thinking of selling this piece and using the money to start a wider collection. where is the best place to do so? is there any example screenshots of the auction page here? i think being a newbie, im very curious just to understand and get a glimpse of the set up. Just my two cents as a rookie. thanks for all the help
