According to the information listed below the Hamilton 950 movement was available in the #2 and #8 railroad cases!

Does anyone know if the 950, (not to include 950B) was available in any other of the RR cases listed in the above chart?

I think it's fair to say that the 950 may well have been available in any of these cases.

Another interesting point is the 950 unlike the 992 was readily available as a movement only all through its production years. That jeweler-cased availability was true until 1937 and introduction of the 950 Elinvar which were all factory cased.

I can agree the 950 could be available in the cases crossbar thru 10.

thus far there has been a gross lack of appearances of boxed examples....

But one has to factor in if the case is contemporary to the movement... such as a last run watch with a crossbar.... however 'possible' that is, the likelyhood of it being an original example is small.

Remember folks... this information is open to the world.... and it is viewed... we must be certain of the info that is posted is correct and verifiable.

Ahhh, now you see why I like the 950's that were made in the mid-late 20's and early 30's, the ones that are POSSIBLE to be factory cased in Railroad cases, not the early high stem Hamilton or other cases for that matter.

There were only approximately. 6,700 Hamilton 950's that COULD have been factory cased. According to the Gelson serial number list. 1) 1,575,401-1,576,000, the 18th run of 950's finished 1923-4-5, so I will interpulate and say a few hundred from this run. 2) 1,652,001-1,653,000 the 22nd run, finished 1924-5-6 3) 1,664,001-1,665,000, the 23rd run finished 1926-27 4) 2,383,001-2,384,000, the 24th run, finished 1926-7-8 5) 2,457,001-2,458,000, the 25th run , finished 1928. 6) 2,504,001-2,505,000 the 26th run, finished 1928-9 7) 2,505,001-2,506,000, the 27th run, finished 1934-5-6 and 8) 2,611,001-2,611,400, the 28th and final run of 950's, finished in 1936.

So these 950's are my favorites and I feel some of the most collectible and I am always on the hunt for them. I feel they will appreciate very well in the future as more people are made aware of this fact. It is in pointing this out that I find few people REALIZE the ones that are say correct to be factory cased (railroad cases) by Hamilton. 6,700 is not a great number of watches and of course not all of these 6,700 were factory cased, most of them saw hard service, and hard times in the depression and many are not shall we say in pristine condition today. So the better condition examples of these would be much less in number and do not turn up for sale every week in my experiance. They are an uncommon group of very collectible watches in my opinion. Of course now YOU know and I will have to be bidding against YOU as well, ha! So.......Happy " Factory Railroad Cased 950" Hunting!

Looks like the Model #2 was used to house the 992, 992E, 992B, 950, 950B. Was it ever used with the 950E?

i would say the 950B in a 2 is not a common critter... have seen then, but most seem to be recases... no boxed examples ... noted two in the S14xxx range that seemed correct...

i would say the 950E could also have been furnished in a model 2, but I don't have a boxed example noted to support this.. (do have an 8 though Wink)
