Information on Grade 265 Elgin Overland
In this time frame an "Adjusted" 17j Elgin would have been a DS dial. My 3rd run LS grade 150 is a Roman numeral dial so in this time frame either Arabic or Roman lettering should be fine. I would expect it to have <<Elgin>> style dial that Bila posted. I don't think that the RR regs for Arabic lettering came about until after the early 1900's so in this case most would prefer Arabic lettering but if you found a DS <<Elgin>> dial with Roman numerials at a good price I certainly would not kick it to the curb. You would and did see ads and such that showed open face (pre-1900) watches with Roman numerials and RR regs that did not forbid them during this time frame.

All,

I thought I would share this interesting discovery with you...
I was researching this issue again today to see if I would uncover a bit more information concerning the correct dial and hand combination for my Grade 256 Overland. Amongst the various posts was a similar question posted in March of 2013. David Abbe responded to this post and provided pictures of the Overland watches that have passed thru his hands. There was something quite familiar about the right hand watch and dial in his pictures… it's my watch… exact serial number face and dial!
Attached is the link to the post with the pictures. I have owned this watch for several years now and can’t believe the coincidence. David’s response pre-dates my joining IHC185… small world! Smile

Overland dial help needed. Pictures added:
