South Bend 207 Dial Help.

I could use some help on this dial. This is on a 1920 South Bend 207. Could this be the original dial or is it a later aftermarket?

These and other pictures found on dials were almost invariably added later, when on top of the glaze they are not original. Some additions were decals, others were painted by hand or applied by other methods. You will find religious and fraternal symbols and even photographs added to watch dials. One important clue to lack of originality on your dial is the fact that the "South-Bend" signature is obscured, that is something watch companies would not do.

There are differing points of view on whether to leave or remove such additions, it is an individual decision but consider that since these are not permanent they may come off when the dial is cleaned.

Thanks Debbie, it's a nice clean dial that with care should not need cleaning for a long time. It's good news I guess because this is such a nice watch but not an expensive one and my wife likes it. 9 times out of 10 my wife will pick the most expensive item in a group and that's with no prices showing. She told me she really likes this watch and doesn't get very excited about most watches. Looks like a great one to give to her.
